I was thinking about this shoot for quite a while before I did it. I had wanted to gear it in a different direction, but it ended up being quite simple. A beautiful girl in a wedding dress at one of our local wineries. I really love how it turned out, how about you?

Take Two

We had our first shoot for Moda Munchkin with Little Darla Fae. It was something that was planned for, but you know, even all the planning in the world can sometimes not workout. This shoot was fun, as I prepped for it and made some extra things, like the custom banner just for Little Darla Fae and a stuffed strawberry that the Bella Mia could keep afterwards. I really enjoy styling and being creative. I also had a lovely assistant, Casey, by my side helping me the entire time. This girl is phenomenal with all those little details that matter so much.

So, our objective was to shoot the outfit for Little Darla Fae with my daughter being the "model".

Day One:

-Preparing for the shoot by finishing up the banner and stuffed strawberry

-Packing up items from my list

-Iron Outfit

-Prepping the Bella Mia with Hair/Light Makeup

-Packing up car

-Off to location: Here is where we run into a snag. I had an idea for a location, but NEVER confirmed it beforehand and so I was left driving from my point A idea {not working out} to point B. Compromise, yes. Best way to start a shoot, not so much. As we are scouting, we stopped at a few other locations and poor Casey falls down in a ditch and cuts up her leg and hand. Oh boy, I felt so bad.

So, we find a field that is PUBLIC and are able to set up. There were even daisies in the background. Awesome! We break branches from trees, discover some bones {yuck} and get the table set, banner,etc. We are ready for the shoot. A - C - T - I - O - N! Or so we thought.

At this point, I must say that the Bella Mia is tired {she had just returned from a four day stay at her grandparents with her Daddy and they were busy the entire time}, so she was kind of a poopy head and my CAMERA malfunctioned! What? Are you kidding me? Do I have a back up camera - NO! It is on my wishlist.

So, after all those hours, we are packing up and heading back home. With no pictures.

DAY TWO:

I need to get this assignment done and so we decide to try again. The CAMERA is fine now. Not sure what really happened, but might have to send it out for a checkup.

Everything is still in the car from the day before, so I didn't have to pack up the car. Just primp the Bella Mia and drive to the location. Oh, on this day, we had the wackiest weather ever. It would rain for two minutes and then the sun would shine. So, it was a little of a gamble to try it, but it needed to be done. Needless to say, after trying to set up once and getting caught in the rain, we were able to produce some results. Whew. It was fun.

Water, Water, Everywhere!

I have been quite lately. Why? Many reasons, but mostly I feel that I needed a break. I am trying to learn my craft better, studying more and trying to decide what road to take.

Each and everyday, we all walk around and do things we must to make it through the day. But are we really doing what we want to? I can certainly tell you that I am not doing what I want. What I want to do and what I can do at this time in my life don't mesh and so I am left to wonder through and try to figure it all out.

So, what is it that I want to do? Well, since I was a little girl, I have had the biggest passion for the beach and the water. As a young child, I spent each and every summer with my Aunt and her boat. We had a marvelous time and then at the age of fifteen, I took my first trip to the beach. That was it. I was hooked. I fell in LOVE. I became obsessed with everything associated with the beach. Why then all these years later, I am still not where I need to be? Notice how I said NEED TO BE, NOT WANT TO BE. There is a difference. Life gets in the way and my path has not lead me there yet, but someday . . . I will wake to the sounds of the calming waters. I will feel the soft sand on my toes. I will rush to watch the amazing sunset. I will hop on my boat to take a ride, just because I can. I will float on my back and take a breath . . . and be at peace because I will be where I am suppose to be . . . with the water.

Until that time can happen, I plan on honing in on my craft and hopefully doing some destination weddings and also personal travel projects, of course. I have some ideas in mind with water storytelling. One photographer I really admire that already does this is Elena Kalis. Well, not only admire, but I have to say that I am really even a little jealous of her lifestyle. She lives in the Bahamas and takes amazing underwater photographs. Now, when I say ah-maze-ing, I truly mean it. Her images leave me breathless each time. Her images tell a story . . . with water! Her latest "Alice in Waterland" is absolutley adorable! Here are some of MY favorite images from her portfolio.

Funny Photo Booth

One of the highlights of second shooting the "Warehouse Wedding" was a funny photo booth that my fellow friend photographer Lisa and I had come up with. She brought a ton, and when I say a ton, I mean a ton, of props for the guests to use. I brought some props and made a special banner to hang.

The banner was made with vintage material from my aunt's collection. I had a great time making it and can't wait to make some more! It didn't get hung exactly as I had envisioned due to the limitations of the old elevator door, but it was still cute to say the least! Lisa also thought it would be cute to have Waldo in all the photos too, some of the guests were all for it and would hide Waldo in their pockets, but some of the guests weren't happy about sharing their spotlight with Waldo. Nevertheless, it was a lot of fun to do the funny photo booth.

Here are some of my favorite shots, but there were some I cannot post due to the privacy of the children :) The couple with the gorilla mask and veil were so animated and had me laughing so hard, I had to wait to stop laughing so I could take the picture. It was so random what the guests would do and absolutely hilarious!

Last night, my Bella Mia was invited to her first birthday dance party. I thought she would be very shy and sit down and not move the entire time, but from the minute we walked in the door, she went straight to the dance floor! As her mother, I was very happy to see this. As a photographer, I felt like a kid in a candy store at all the wonderful opportunities to be taken. This place was really cool with all the lights, music and special effects. Plus, the kids had a bubble gum contest, cookie eating contest, hula hoop contest, limbo contest, freeze contest and there was bubbles and smoke and games, oh my. It was a really great birthday party.

Here are some of the photos. Of course, I had to be careful which ones to post to protect the privacy of the children, but I think you'll get the overall feel of the place!

Last week we had 60 degree temperatures, robins in the yard and geese by the pond. I was SO wishing that spring was here to stay, but today, old man winter re-appeared with a vengeance! At least I have pretty bloom pictures from last year to keep me going, huh?

It's Been Awhile

It seems like forever since I have posted here. I have been busy with so many things. One thing I am doing again this year is Project 365. I am doing random daily photos, but I do choose a theme each week to make it a little easier. It is quite challenging. I hope I finish it this year. Last year, I didn't challenge myself enough, so this year, my goal is to really try different angles, lighting, and everything else that goes into making a beautiful picture.

This week over at I Heart Faces, they are celebrating their SECOND BIRTHDAY week already. Wow, I remember last year sending over birthday wishes. Time really does seem to fly, doesn't it?

The theme for this week is SMILE! I immediately thought of the photograph I took just last night of my daughter for my 365 project {yes, I am challenging myself, again!} We had a fantastic time playing with LOTS & LOTS of bubbles and the smiles she had during this time was simply - priceless!

Pucker Up!

We are totally obsessed with the NUTCRACKER and LOVE to decorate with them! I actually started a collection years ago for my son, but he passed them onto the Bella Mia now.

( I guess that's what happens when they get older).

But I love shopping for special ones each year and now the tradition is passed down to her!

I took this pic especially for Marcia over at Classy Kids Photography! It's one of my husbands old ornaments. Don't you LOVE it Marcia?

This pic was because this was my mother's favorite angel. I wanted to remember it because she loved it so much. Good thing I took this when I did.

Not long after, the kids were having a pillow fight and it took a tumble over the banister and landed on the ceramic tile, sigh. :(

A new nutcracker that is a little BIGGER than the normal size we usually get. But I still want one for the floor, it is about 5 feet tall, if you ever see one, let me know!

I think this is my favorite picture. So much so, I am using it on FB for my profile pic until the end of the year! These nutcrackers are in the glass case beside the tree, the perfect set up!

Creating Memories

Wow, I sure have been busy, hence the lack of my blogging activity lately! I have been spending a lot of time with my children and preparing for the upcoming festivities. Not only is it Christmas, but the Bella Mia's birthday is also only TWO days prior, so I have been busy with that too! Yesterday, we celebrated her birthday in her classroom, so I was able to join her for lunch and take some cupcake ice cream cones to all her classmates. She has such a lovely little group, they are adorable!

I LOVE creating new traditions and memories for my children and family and one of the best way I know how is, of course, by photographing EVERYTHING! It is always so great to look back at prior celebrations and remember good times. This past weekend, I escaped for a day and drove up north to visit my friend and her little guy. I was also able to meet with Amanda & Brent and take their engagement photos! They are the cutest, sweetest couple ever! The groom-to-be just happens to be my friend's brother and I can't believe he is getting married! His finance' couldn't be any more adorable. Her and I clicked (no pun intended) and she totally understood everything I directed. They were awesome and I can't wait to photograph their big day in September 2011.

Five years ago today, we met our beautiful Bella Mia and have had five years of amazement with this little girl. She is the most sweetest, resilent, smartest, beautiful girl I have ever met (and I'm not just saying that because I'm her mama!) I am truly blessed to be called her Mama and I look forward to what the next five years brings for us! Happy Adoption Day baby girl, I love you so, so much!

Blooms

Again, I have adopted a new obsession! What is it this time? Well, the other day I was making a tutu dress for my fellow photog friend over at Mezzaluna Photography and I wanted to create a unique flower for it. I have been thinking for weeks about trying my hand at making fabric flowers and so I gave it a whirl. I didn't quite know that it would be so addicting, however, and so I decided to make some more this morning for my daughter's Halloween costume. She is going to be somewhat of a vintage witch, so we'll see how it all goes together. They were very easy and fun. I cut out extra fabric so I can make even more! I am going to experiment with a bunch of other fabrics to see what I can come up with. If you want to know how I made them this is all I did:

1. Created a template of 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 inch circles.

2. Cut out several of each size using tulle and silk fabric.

3. This is the fun part, but be careful! Burn the edges over a candle. The tulle was tough and some would get holes right away, so just hold it up high to begin with and DO NOT put them directly into the flame. The silk melted the edges very nice.

4. Next, I arranged the silk and the tulle alternating colors and went from largest to smallest.

5. Then I sewed up and down the middle a few times and tied a knot.

6. And, ta-dah, beautiful blooms!

Important post that you must read!

In honor of ALL women who have had to deal with this horrible disease, I am re-posting the image of the PINK FOUNTAIN in Point State Park to HONOR each and every one of YOU!, including my beloved Aunt Marlene whom I miss dearly each and every day. She has been gone for almost two years now, and a day doesn't go by that I don't think of her.

My aunt suffered from one of the rarest forms of breast cancer, Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). It is hard to detect and often thought of as an infection of the breast. Symptoms include a RED RASH on the breast area, some pain, but NO LUMP. My Aunt went back and forth to the doctor and because it is such an aggressive form of cancer, it is so important to have it detected and diagnosed quickly. Unfortunately, for my aunt, it was over FOUR months before they discovered what this was and it was too late. There is only a 1% survival rate. She fought long and hard and made it for FIVE years, something so unheard of. The cancer spread to her brain and lymph nodes too and then it was unstoppable. She had several surgeries, but it was jus too aggressive.

So, please if you EVER see a red rash on one of your breasts, DO NOT DISMISS it and think it is nothing, go to the doctor immediately! Click here for more information about Inflammatory Breast Disease.

Sophomores and Kindergarteners

Monday was the first official day of KINDERGARTEN for the Bella Mia and our son became a SOPHOMORE! Wow, it is hard to believe he will be graduating in a few years and off to college. He has become quite the young man over the summer and I am happy that he is maturing and becoming so responsible. What a difference a year makes! He only let me take two quick pictures of him. I wish he would let me take more, but hey, I will take what I can get!

I ♥ him so much!

On the first day of school, we had to take the Bella Mia and stay with her for two hours and then came home. The second day, she rode the BIG yellow bus and was gone all day.

First Day:

Her teacher is WONDERFUL and we love that her room has an "ocean" theme for the entire year! There was a beautiful poem inside her folder from her teacher and I just had to share ( I, of course, got her permission to do so)!

The First Day

I gave you a wink and smile

As you entered my room today.

For I know how hard it is to leave

And know your child must stay.

You've been with her for five years now

And have been a loving guide,

But now, alas, the time has come

To leave her at my side.

Just know that as you drive away

And tears down your cheek may flow

I'll love her as I do my own

And hlep her learn and grow.

For as a parent, I too know

How quickly the years do pass

And one day soon it will be my turn

To take my child to class.

So please put yur mind at ease

And cry those tears no more

For I will love her

When you leave her at the door!

I know the Bella Mia is going to have a wonderful year and Mrs. Correll is going to be excellent. She is expecting a baby and will be leaving in December and returning in February. The Bella Mia LOVES babies and I am sure will be asking her a ton of questions!

I couldn't resist on the second day, adding something special for her though, just to let her know that I was indeed thinking of her through out the day and if by chance she was missing me, to look at her arm and know that I was with her. She got a kick out this and actually said she looked at it several times during the day (tear). How sweet!

Miss Casey took her to get her nails and toes done on Friday to be sure she was stylin for school!

The theme for her second day was Hello Kitty. We ♥ clothes and fashion!

Our neighbor is such a good helper and makes sure she is on the bus and watches over her! So sweet.

Off she goes . . . sigh, tears, sigh.

Three Photographs That Changed Our Lives Forever!

At exactly 4:01 p.m. on September 1, 2005, we received an email with three photographs that changed our lives forever!

It was from Lavida Adoption Agency and we had finally been matched with our daughter after waiting eighteen months! Omg, I will never forget that feeling as I proceeded to download the file to meet my daughter. With my two sons by my side and the hubby on the phone at his computer at work, we opened it together as a family and those photos became a part of us for the next TWO months until we could travel to bring her home.

She was beautiful and we felt very blessed to be given the opportunity to take care of such a precious little peanut. She only weighed 12 pounds at six months old, she was definately going to be tiny. The health report they sent along with the photos was excellent. She was perfect! Just as I imagined.

We printed her photos and had them all over the house! I carried one on my neck. I couldn't stop looking at these precious photos that was our daughter! I placed some in the car, on my desk, on the fridge, and on my night stand. I remember holding her photo everyday and crying because I yearned for her to come home. I remember holding her photo at night and thinking how she was just waking up to start her day. I will remember those photos for the rest of my life and they will be a forever keepsake. Oh, the power of a photograph. Simply amazing, isn't it?

Celebrating My Daughter

Yesterday marked the annual celebration of Chinese Daughter's Day! Although we are not in China, I really try to continue the customs, traditions and holidays of the culture to ensure my daughter always maintains a sense of self. I truly believe it is so important for her to grow up a strong, confident woman!

We had a big day planned that started with some pampering. That's me pampering her of course, by painting her finger and toenails. I then quickly made a tutu to match her new ADORABLE new shirt from

Fly Away Clothing Boutique. I really bought it for a school shirt, but after seeing how cute it was, it was the perfect shirt for my daughter to wear on her special day.

From there we headed to the mall for some shopping and the Bella Mia's favorite chinese lunch. She insisted that she get her ears pierced (again). She had them pierced before, but Big Papa took her earrings out too soon and they closed. She was so very brave as she sat in the chair and got them done. Yep, two new shiny blue gems! I was so proud of her. Afterwards, I went to the location for her photo shoot with all intentions of seeing this gorgeous wheat field, however, it was chopped down and so we had to settle for a cute little bench along the road. We had some really cute props and stopped to buy pretty pink balloons. She decided to release one after we were finished because it was really windy and she giggled as she watched it float away.

After the shoot we came home and had dinner and then off to the DQ to round out the day. It was a beautiful day with my beautiful daughter and I feel so blessed each and every day that I get to be her mommy. I ♥ her so, so much. I sometimes still cry when I look at her and get overwhelmed with her beauty and love that she gives me daily. I am forever grateful.

It was a perfect timing how her mother and father surprised her at her college graduation party. She really was shocked and grateful for such a wonderful surprise and gift! And she was so funny as she kept saying "Is this for real?"

Farming the Organic Way!

Last weekend, we took a little trip to a local organic farm. It was quite interesting to see what they had planted this year. Although the raspberries were not ripe, we did get some yummy red potatoes and the owner was kind enough to give us some mixed greens and arugula salad. The hubby did a fantastic job whipping up some red smashed garlic potatoes. The best I have ever had!

I'm a Weiner!

A few months ago, I entered the Art Institutes Storytellers Photography Competition to WIN a scholarship to their school. I submitted eight photographs that told the story of Abbi, a rescued pit bull therapy dog, that visits local nursing homes in our area. She is one amazing dog and I have fallen in love with her personality and spirit she emits with each visit. The residents adore her too and can hardly wait to see her each month.

Well, I got a letter yesterday and I am proud to announce that I won second place in the regional competition and won a scholarship towards tutition at the school! I am very surprised that I won, in fact, never in a million years did I think I had a chance, but indeed, I did!

Now, I have to really decide what to do. Since I already have a bachelor's degree, they would be able to transfer my general ed classes over and I would just have all the FUN and creative courses. I have been contemplating going back and so now I need your help! What would you do? Would you go back or keep moving forward on your own? Do you think a photography degree is actually needed now-a-days? Leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts. I would really love to hear them!

Princess Bella Mia's 4th Session

I wanted to do some 4th photos of the Bella Mia so I got her ready and we were off scouting locations trying to find the perfect setting. I knew I wanted it to be a view of some of our fab mountains, but then my hubby noticed the red and blue dug outs as we drove past a ball field. Perfect!

I also did not use any presets this time. I will probably still do some with them {I just can't help myself} but for now, here they are.

Last week the hubby was home on vacation. I had my honey-do list ready for him to get some things done while I had the chance. One of the things on my list was to make a photo gallery in our entry way. I had all the frames from my wedding boutique, so I just had to plan how I was going to design the layout.

It started with a much bigger area than what it ended up, but thankfully the hubby is good with numbers. I would have just eyeballed everything {like I always do}and had a million holes in the wall! But he took his time to measure it all out and here are the results:

Now the fun part - to fill them up with my favorite shots. That is taking some time to process, but I will get it done eventually. This week, I am sharing some images of my daughter that I took this past winter. I was trying my hand at using some natural light that was pouring in through our glass doors. I also wanted to capture her in her asian dress and hair-do that she loves! I have also edited each photo using One Willow Boutique 's Lightroom Presets.

I have titled this series of portraits "Asian Beauty Revealed". I will be entering this series into a local juried exhibition {my first -yikes!} this summer. I am looking forward to it, even though I am unfamiliar with the whole process at this point, I know that it will be a learning experience and that is my goal for the project. So here is the schedule in case you want to follow along, wink wink.

Delivery of Accepted Work: August 20, 21, 22, 2010
Reception: September 1, 2010

Thursday Tips

One thing I found very helpful and continue to use is my digital field guide for the Nikon D90. This is a book that goes a little more indepth and helps you learn all the key componets of your camera, what is really essential to your camera, menus, in-depth review of the types of lenses you should be using, light, advanced shooting, and editing techniques.

I am still in the process of reviewing the book over and over and taking notes in my notebook of the important topics that I will use again as a photographer. The camera manual is fine to get acquainted with your camera, but the field guide is an absolute must! There are many different versions out there for all types of cameras, so even if you are a Canon user, I believe you should find one as well.

Unexpected Gifts

It has been a few weeks since attending the workshop with MeRa Koh and my SOAR sisters. While I was there, I received some unexpected gifts from MeRa. Well, actually, I received MANY unexpected gifts.

Towards the end of the workshop, MeRa presented my with this beatiful candleholder and inside was a tiny bird. I knew immediately what the bird represented and immediately felt so blessed by her gesture. She told me the gift was for staring the SOAR Sister Spotlight. This was a blog I started for all my SOAR sisters that spotlighted them and their journey. I have to say that I have been so busy I stopped it during the month of May and part of June, but will be starting it again very soon!

The next gift was a door prize for a wonderful canvas from Pixel 2 Canvas! I couldn't believe I won because I NEVER win anything. I am so excited to receive my canvas, but I can't decide which picture I should use! Decisions, decisions. Maybe I will hold a poll on here and you all can vote to help me decide!

My third was the gift of encouragement, support and friendship from 23 people. Yes, 23 people. Our group of women (and Brian) at this workshop was totally amazing. I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful it was to share so much with these incredible women. We laughed, we cried, we hugged, we listened. I am hoping to "spotlight" all of them on my blog so you can get to know them too. I find myself thinking of them a lot and hoping that they are all following through with their dreams. I believe a lot of them are doing so because we are in touch on FB and our SOARority forum. I love hearing about their new adventures and I love seeing all their beautiful images they so willingly share.

Giving Back

As many of you may know, I am the Director of Communications for Dianjiang Kids International, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the children of Dianjiang Social Welfare Institute in Dianjiang, Chongqing, People's Republic of China. I became involved with DKI after the completion of our adoption.

So many people ask me why "China"? Why not here? My response is simply this: Does it really matter where? Really? If you think it matters where, well, then, not to sound rude, but I ask you why? Children are children no matter where they are from, what race they are, what language they speak. That is my simple explanation of why. And not to sound so preachy, but furthermore, people are people --period.

This week is the annual kick off of Chase Community Giving on Facebook! This opportunity could help raise the much needed funds for our orphanage. This year, especially, we have seen a drop in the number of supporters. With the Chase Community Giving contest, we could win up to $1 million for our charity. I couldn't even begin to imagine that! A few years ago when we were at the beach, I asked my daughter to go for a walk with me. It was in the early morning and I was on a mission to capture some great shots in her cute little dress we bought special just for the trip. Even though I really adored her little yellow dress, I just loved the process of turning this photo into a sepia image. It's one of my all time favorites.

Learning all this photography stuff is pretty exhausting at times. There is soooooooo much to learn and soooooooo much to do once you learn it! But, I really do love learning and I love sharing too. So, I decided that I would share a tip every Thursday about something related to photography that I learned when just starting out or that I am in the process of learning.

Right now, I am really focusing on learning my camera inside and out. I know a lot of what does what, but there is still much to learn. Some things are so simple that you will be amazed at the difference in your photographs. Now remember, I am by far no expert but as I learn, I will pass on things that may or may not help you. Some information you might know and if you do, that's great! Also, feel free to chime in at anytime if you have something to share!

My first tip is something so very simple, but it has a huge impact on your images. When I first got my DSLR camera I couldn't figure out why I was constantly getting blurred images. They just didn't look right, even after editing! Actually, sometimes they looked worse. Well, after reading my manual, I found out about a little button on the back of your camera called the "Viewfinder Diopter Adjustment Knob". Sounds pretty techy huh? Here is a picture of what it looks like on my camera: (I have a Nikon D90)

This button adjusts YOUR focus. I emphasize the word YOUR because if someone else is using YOUR camera, it may be different from what you would set the focus to. So, make sure you take a second, literally, and as you are looking though your viewfinder, adjust the diopter by turning the wheel to where it is sharp for your vision and that's it! Now, your images will be a little crisper and shouldn't have blurred images.

Foto Flashback Friday

Last November, I was able to get down to St. Pete for a few days with my friends. We stayed for about four days and we were able to adventure around to see some cool places. My favorite was our visit to Caladesi Island. Even though it was cold and rainy, I didn't even care. I walked on the beach in the rain and soothed my soul. There is something so magical about my connection to water. When I am around water, I feel soooooo elated, so relaxed and so calm, but alive. Does that make sense? My favorite thing to do when I visit anywhere with water is to grab a boat and explore.

This was about the second time I shot with a DSLR. I wasn't shooting in manual at the time, but I was able to capture some nice shots. One of my favorite shots was of this beauty:

This was taken in a car going 75 m.p.h. through the glass window. Not bad for an amatuer, huh?

These were just a few of my shots from our trip. I have about a zillion more. I had the best time practicing and shooting with a DSLR and this trip actually inspired me to keep moving forward into the wonderful world of photography.

Lightroom Presets, Love Em or Leave Em?

I have been thinking alot about Mackinaw Island lately. Last year, I took the Princess Bella Mia and my friend KeKe took her daughter "Pretty Face Kate" and off we went to spend a few days exploring the beauty of the island.

I was immediately drawn to all the wonderful photo opportunities and spent a lot of time capturing some great pics. Since I recently learned how to use Light Room a little, I figured I would try re-editing some of the images to see how they would turn out.

At the conference this past weekend, Me Ra brought up the subject of presets and keeping the photo in a more natural state. And you know, in December, that is how I felt. It was actually very hard for me to alter the photo to a point where the original image was not the original image in context. And then, I don't know what happened, but I think I learned how to actually use the presets, started experimenting, and became addicted! I try not to overdue it too much, but I just LOVE them. Here are some of the re-edited images I did using some presets:

On the second day of Me Ra Koh's workshop, we had a family shoot. I was really excited to head outside and see what we would capture. I was also very excited to meet fellow SOAR sister Christina Barsoum and her two adorable daughters! She wasn't at the workshop because she attended a previous one, so she was there to model. Well, Me Ra picked another family for me to work with, but I caught some of them when Me Ra was demonstrating:

I love this last one. She was so cute!

Me Ra came down to me and asked me to walk up the sidewalk to meet another family to photograph, so off I went. I met this beautiful, adorable family and found they were so easy to photograph.

I don't know if you can notice, but the little boy's eyelashes were sooooo long and sweet!

This was the niece and she was so sweet too. Very easy to direct and capture, don't you think?

This was Grandma, she was having a good time with the baby too!

And there you have it! Some of my Day Two at the Workshop. This was an amazing experience and I am SO happy that I was able to attend. I would do it again, so I am hoping they create a new one to attend - lol. wink, wink

For C-O-N-F-I-D-E-N-C-E that is! Yes, I just returned from Me Ra Koh's Confidence Workshop this past weekend in Jersey City, NJ! It was, to say the least, such a fabulous experience that I just had to share it with you all. To all my photog friends and SOARority Sisters, if you have ever thought of attending, well think no more and just attend a workshop this fall! I arrived Friday with the hubby and princess bella mia to the hotel and had a meet and greet at 7 p.m.

But, as soon as we pulled in, I ran in to my SOAR sisters, Marcia, Christine and Rachel! It was so great to give them a BIG HUG and to meet them in person.

The meet and greet was so nice! I met so many wonderful women and looked forward to what the weekend would bring for all of us.

The next morning we were to meet in the conference room at 9:30 for the workshop to begin. The minute Me Ra & Brian walked in and started talking, I knew it was going to be fabulous. And it was. We started off with telling "our story" and I was so touched and moved emotionally by some of these women's stories. I want all of them to succeed and become the photographer they so desire. I wish them all the best.

Me Ra discussed many things about the camera, lighting, and so, so much more. We also had the opportunity to do a baby and family shoot each day. The first day was a baby shoot. I had never done a baby session and my group was paired with a mom and her three month old son. He was such a cutie. Here are some of the shots I captured.

I wasn't quite sure how the photos would turn out. It was a little difficult to shoot with several other women trying to do the same thing, but overall, I think they turned out okay. What do you think?

Tomorrow I will share some of the family shoots we did. I actually had two families and then was able to capture our very own SOAR sister, Christina Barsoum, who came to model for us. Her girls are absolutely darling and I was so happy to meet them all!

Sunflowers and Slippers

Today was an absolute GORGEOUS DAY! Miss Princess Bella Mia and I had a fun time out on the deck soakin up the sun! She also wanted to plant some of her "seeds" that the Easter Bunny brought her while she watched her baby. She's quite the multi-tasker and don't you just LOVE the pink slippers? Well, the deck does get hot ya' know.

On Saturday, we celebrated Miss Casey's college graduation from Seton Hill University! Yeah Casey, so proud of YOU! We attended the ceremony at the campus and then headed to Swan Lake a.k.a. Twin Lakes for her PARTY. It was such a beautiful day and we were so thankful the weather cooperated. Little did we all know, that her parents were going to SURPRISE her with the most fantastic gift ever! Take a look at our day!

Springtime in the Burbs

The other day, I was able to get outside with the Bella Mia and capture some springtime shots around my house. This was also a lesson for me shooting in the RAW and then editing with One Willow Presets in Adobe Lightroom 3, which I was really excited to do. If you are not familiar with One Willow, please make sure to stop by her site and checkout all her fun goodies, but remember, you must shoot in the RAW to use her presets and they are edited in Lightroom 3. (I always chuckle to myself when I hear "Shoot in the RAW", like I am outside naked -lol) She is also getting ready to release some NEW presets soon!

I must have started about a hundred different websites for my photography information, but each time, I was never completely satisfied. I finally decided to keep it simple, clean and modern. I really like how it turned out and plan to add a few more things in the coming days. So, what do you think? I would love to hear some feedback.

Two Princesses in a Park!

Yesterday I had a fabulous and fun session with two little princesses in the park! The younger one, Miss S, was so much fun and so full of life. The older one, Miss L, took direction very well and could change her facial expressions on cue! So adorable, what do you think?

Painting for Child Abuse Prevention

As promised, here are the photos from the event yesterday. Congratulations to Casey, all her fellow classmates and staff who put on this event!

The mural was not finished by the time we left the event, however, Miss Casey was kind enough to send me a photo of it when it was done and it is amazing! Since the mural will be on display at the local art museum and a few other places, I plan on visiting and photographing the finished piece to show all the details and hard work that was put into it. Stay tuned for more about this worthwhile project!

She has been working on organizing the event, along with her fellow classmates and professor, for many weeks. Week 16 I Heart Faces Collage Challenge

I was excited to see the challenge for this week at I Heart Faces was a collage. I was actually just making one and decided that I would enter this week. I made this beautiful collage of my daughter with all my favorite shots of her. Well, not every single one, but a lot of them. I adore my beautiful daughter and I am so grateful to be her mommy. She is just as sweet as she is beautiful, but has a little sass too - perfect! :-)

Picnic Anyone?

Today was a decent sunny day, so I asked the princess if she wanted to do a picnic and she was very excited. It is one of her favorite things to do and so we headed out to Swan Lake, a.k.a. Twin Lakes, for a nice afternoon picnic. Little did we know that once we got to the park we would be freeeeezing! My poor Princess Bella Mia was shivering down by the water and so we had to hurry and eat our lunch and snap a few pics. I guess it would have helped if she was dressed a little warmer too, but she just had to wear her new outfit from Crazy 8. Oh, this weather, I hate how it is changing back to being cold now, uggg...! Will summer ever get here?

Yesterday was a beautiful Easter day! My family and I had a lovely and yummy dinner, an egg hunt for the princess bella mia and of course, how could we not do a fun Easter photo session! Casey was such a great assistant but, Miss princess bella mia was a little pre-occupied because of the girls next door that were outside playing, but overall we captured some lovely shots. You're going to LOVE the photos with the sunglasses because they are mine! Too funny! What do you think? Let me know which one is your favorite shot!

World's Largest Sock Monkey and Other Cool Finds

I have been designing a website for a local jewelry business and also taking photos of their jewelry. I had one week to get it done and my deadline was Saturday the 27th. Taking the photos of the jewelry took longer than expected, but overall it went pretty well. I know I definitely need and want a macro lens. That would have helped achieve better shots. I also need a lightbox, which I can make my own and intend to do so, I just need more time in a day!

After finishing up with the jewelry business, on Saturday, Casey and I headed out to Bellevue, PA, and found some interesting shops along the main street. Larry's Collectables (I know, that's how it is spelled on the sign) was so much FUN! As we were driving around, I instantly spotted the ginormous SOCK MONKEY sitting outside Larry's store. It was the biggest sock monkey I had ever seen and it turns out that it, indeed, is the biggest sock monkey ever made! It debuted in 2009 in the midwest. I just LOVE sock monkeys and couldn't resist grabbing a few shots of it:

After seeing the sock monkey outside and chatting with Larry, who was so friendly, Casey and I decided to check out the cool stuff inside the store. I couldn't believe how many toys and stuff he had in there! I found Wizard of Oz Dolls, all six of them, from 1982 in perfect condition. I just had to get them because it is a tradition in my family to watch that movie in the fall and it was my grandma and mother's favorite movie. I have passed down that tradition to all my kids, so it was a great find. I also found a ventriliquist doll that I had to get my middle son. He says he is afraid of them (jokingly) and so I got it to put in his bed! Ha, don't worry he is 15. I couldn't do it, however, and ended up just handing it to him when I got home. It was very funny and I am sure you will be seeing him in some of my photos because he is kind of our new family mascot - lol.

After visiting with Larry, we took a walk down the street to stop in Joyce's Antique Emporium. Before walking in, this old antique buggy and doll caught my attention. I just love old dolls and well, pretty much anything old.

Upon walking in to the store, we were greeted by Joyce and she was so sweet and was telling us all about her business. It was wonderful to hear how she started and that she has been in business for many years.

Casey and I stayed in Joyce's store for about an hour or more! There is so much to see and so many things that we could have stayed there for a whole weekend and probably not have seen everything! Here are some cool shots from around her store:

I had a ton of fun at this antique store and just love photographing vintage and nostalgic things!

On Sunday morning, I awoke with a horrible sinus problem. I headed for the local med express and sure enough had to be put on some antibiotics. Needless to say, I am still feeling pretty crappy and thus have fallen behind in my editing, photographing and 365 project. I totally did not take any photos for Monday and Tuesday of this week :-(, but managed to get one today, of my new best friend. I will post it tomorrow along with all my other 365 photos from last week. Now, I need to go cover up and sleep. Until tomorrow...

I Heart Faces - Dramatic Black & White

This week over at I ♥ Faces, the challenge is dramatic black and white. I am a HUGE fan of B&W photos, especially of my daughter! Her face is so captivating and beautiful and in a b&w print, it's absolutely stunning. I have about a million favorite shots of my daughter's face, but this one ranks in my top ten list.

One thing my little princess bella mia LOVES to do is go golfing with her Daddy. For Christmas, I ordered them special golf shirts that they could wear each time they go together. With the warm temps again today, she couldn't wait to get out there on the greens.
